Many of you have heard about our “Buy a story, help tell a story” fund-raiser that we’ve been working on this fall. We’re selling donated books and using the proceeds to tell stories from around the world that are being written, but have yet to be heard. With the holiday season approaching, we wanted you to see some of the titles that are available at our Amazon storefront because books make pretty great gifts! Here are some books you might want to check out:

St. Augustine Confessions: This classic book written by the 4th century philosopher and theologian St. Augustine covers his life and conversion to Christianity. You can buy our copy here.

Maybe you’ve seen the movies, but have you read the books? J.R.R. Tolkien’s second novel in his Lord of the Rings triology is worth the read. Our copy was actually purchased in New Zealand where the breathtakingly beautiful movies were filmed! Purchase The Two Towers by clicking here.

It’s nice to know you’re not alone.

As I was tossing around ideas for this story of the week, Jessi and Stephen mentioned Watermelon Ministries, an organization that has a similar vision and heartbeat as Bedouins International.

Based in Tennessee, Watermelon Ministries began in 2004 when Joshua MacLeod decided to leave his high-paying job as a manager of a courtroom presentation company to start a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to telling stories and planting seeds that would hopefully grow into a vine of connections. Thus, the name Watermelon Ministries.

Like Bedouins, Watermelon Ministries produces media such as photography, videos, websites, and print design for ministries for free. They also use their website to connect people with different outreach venues. One of their ministries pairs photographs (all taken by Joshua during his travels) with Bible verses to create Scripture prints to give away to nursing home residents. Another organization that Watermelon Ministries helped start is Garments of Praise which donates instruments to orphanages that couldn’t otherwise afford them.

In his blog, Joshua says that Watermelon Ministries has taken him to India, Chile, South Africa, Uganda, Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, Sudan, and Ethiopia. They have helped 35 other ministries with an aim of “equipping thousands to reach millions.” In one of his posts he asks,“What would happen if rather than watch TV for a week, we went to go find someone to needs served, and served them?”

Watermelon Ministries is doing just that. Visit their website or Facebook page to find out more.

Each week Bedouins International posts a story. Maybe it’s one we’ve helped to tell, or a story we hope to tell, or it maybe it’s just a story we think deserves to be told. In any case, we hope you find them inspiring and motivating. Read more stories here.

So what is GoMotion? It is a ministry passionately on a mission to see a new generation of people worshipping in the Kingdom of God. To reach this generation the group uses the power of music and new media to reach across cultural divides to communicate the love of Christ and stir hearts to worship Him.

I have 13 percent battery on Stephen’s laptop, so I must hurry. Here’s a quick selection of photos from the past few days, with commentary by moi. Pronounced, “mwa.” I’m basically trilingual.

Moi. Stephen always picks the most awkward shots of me…

Fisherpeople, heading out for the night. Ten minutes before, they’d been cleaning the day’s catch and smoking… well, not tobacco. I got the impression that life on the lagoon was not a cushy one.

Looking for La Gustina, the aforementioned claw shrimps.

La Gustina!

Donny was our guide for the day, and one of the crippled divers whose lives we are here to document.

The parrot at the nameless restaurant where we often ate in Brus Laguna. He bit Stephen a couple of times, but they eventually found an equilibrium of mutual respect, wherein the parrot sat on Stephen’s shoulder, and Stephen didn’t kill the parrot and eat it.

You didn’t so much order food at the restaurant, as ask what they were serving, and decide if you wanted a plate of it. Today it was "pescado." The entire pescado.

Pastor Stephen’s Front yard

There are monkeys in this picture! Stephen was shooting the 35mm, which is unsuited for the task, but the 100mm was already packed up. Better pictures exist, which I’m sure we’ll post later.

That’s it! 6 percent, and I’m done. I’m a ninja. Miss you guys, can’t wait to get home!

Paul

We’re back in La Ceiba, having hopped our way up and down the Mosquito Coast for a week on tiny, tiny airplanes… It’s been an amazing trip, lots of sick footy, many beautiful photographs. We’re just chilling tomorrow, probably going to catch a taxi down to the shopping center we found and play in the arcade for a while. Then it’s off to San Pedro Sula by bus, to catch our plane home!

We found a wireless connection (seriously?) out here, no idea where it’s coming from, but we’ll post some photos tomorrow.

See you soon!
